Quick intro
Undertale hands you a weird little arsenal as you wander the Underground. Each weapon feels different — some are pokey and polite, others are absurdly overpowered — and where you are in the game often decides what you can actually pick up. Below I broke everything down into neat bite-sized weapon profiles so you can choose the right tool for your questionable moral choices.
Stick
The humble starting item. It doesn’t do much besides making you feel like a kid swinging a twig, but it gets the job done early on. Attack power: 0. Hits once per attack. Where to find it: you start with it.
Toy Knife
A plastic knife that’s more for show than terror. It’s light, cheap, and fits the aesthetic of an adventurer who would rather pretend to fight. Attack power: 3. One-hit pattern. Where to find it: the Ruins.
Strong Glove
A battered pink glove for people who prefer punching things to stabbing them. Decent punch in a small package. Attack power: 5. One-hit pattern. Where to find it: Snowdin.
Ballet Shoes
Worn-out dancing shoes that somehow make you deadlier — perhaps the pirouettes are lethal. They let you land multiple quick strikes. Attack power: 7. Three hits per attack. Where to find it: Waterfall.
Tattered Notebook
A scribbled-up notebook that probably belonged to someone who took notes during a monster lecture. It’s not very strong on offense, but it gives you a defensive edge by lengthening the brief invulnerability after you take damage. Attack power: 2. Two hits per attack, with an extra boost to your post-hit invulnerability. Where to get it: can be bought from Gerson.
Burnt Frying Pan
This pan has seen better breakfasts. It’s surprisingly reliable and gives your healing items a little extra oomph. Attack power: 10. Four hits per attack. Consumable items heal 4 additional HP when you have this equipped. Location: an isolated area you’ll stumble across during your journey.
Empty Pistol
A classy old revolver…without bullets. It hits harder when you actually land the shots, so timing matters more than brute force. Attack power: 12. Four quick hits per attack. Where to buy it: sold by Catty and Bratty.
Worn Dagger
A sharp little blade that’s great for cutting through flora and awkward conversations. It’s a solid, straightforward weapon that punches above its weight for a simple stab. Attack power: 15. Single-strike weapon. Where to find it: Asgore’s house (only available on Neutral and Pacifist runs).
Royal Knife
The absurdly powerful blade that makes everything else feel like a butter knife. If you’ve gone down the truly terrible path, this weapon shows up and lets you turn battles into quick, dramatic endings. Attack power: 99 — effectively a one-hit takedown. Where to find it: Asgore’s house (only appears on the Genocide route).
Best weapons by route
If you want a quick cheat-sheet: for Neutral runs the Worn Dagger is the reliable pick, Pacifist playthroughs benefit from the Burnt Frying Pan’s healing bonus, and if you’re rampaging through Genocide, the Royal Knife is the brutal crown jewel.
Parting note
Whether you’re roleplaying as a gentle pacifist, an indecisive neutral wanderer, or a villain with commitment issues, Undertale’s weapon choices complement each vibe. Pick what fits your style — or pick the most ridiculous one and enjoy the chaos.
