How to Get Aeserion Scales in Crimson Desert
Aeserion Scales are the game’s glittery unicorn resource: rare, precious, and not something you stumble onto by grinding mobs in a field. You’ll need to follow a specific chain of events to get them — it’s not impossible, just mildly theatrical. Here’s a friendly, slightly sarcastic walkthrough so you don’t wander around smashing rocks for hours.
Quick roadmap
In short: beat three Ancestor bosses, free Aeserion at the Serpent Sanctuary, pick up the scales scattered around the island, stash them in your Kuku Pot with Axiomatic Force and Seal, and move them into your inventory only when you need them. Want more later? Send the Greymane on missions.
Defeat the Ancestors
Step one: take down the three Ancestors. These bosses are chunky, hit hard, and like area-of-effect nonsense — basically the video game equivalent of being pepper-sprayed by a mythic grandparent. Be sure your health, stamina, and spirit are leveled up and your damage is competitive.
The three Ancestors you’re looking for are:
– Primus: hangs out on the southwest coast of Delesyia in a spot with a handful of monoliths. Easy to spot once you know what you’re looking for.
– Priscus: found deep inside the Ringing Spire of Truth. Bring patience and crowd control.
– Praevus: lives in the Abyss of the Fallen (west of Tommaso). The area is literally on fire — bring fire protection or you’ll be barbequed between boss attacks.
There’s no required order, so shuffle them however you like. Expect flying attacks, tough special moves, and occasional theatrics. Don’t be shy about cheesing mechanics if that’s your jam.
Free Aeserion
After beating all three Ancestors, head to the Serpent Sanctuary on the southwestern-most island of Delesia. You’re not there to stab the serpent — you’re there to liberate it.
On Aeserion’s back you’ll spot three big red spikes. Mount up, approach a spike, then use Palm Strike and follow with Palm Strike: Concentration to find and hit the weak spot. Break a spike, dismount immediately (the back short-circuits and zaps you for a bit), then repeat until all three are gone.
Breaking them triggers a cutscene and you’ll get an Aeserion Sword, but the scales aren’t handed over in the cutscene — they’re scattered around the sanctuary island. Use your minimap: small pentagram-shaped icons mark each scale. There are roughly 40–45 of them if you clear the island thoroughly.
Collect the scales with Axiomatic Force and Seal so they go straight into your Kuku Pot. This is important: you can carry far more this way than lugging them in your pockets like a hoarder.
Pro tip: check the southern coast cave before you leave. There’s a chest with a manual that contains blueprints for Aeserion weapons — neat bonus, and worth poking around for.
How to use Aeserion Scales
Important little wrinkle: scales stored in the Kuku Pot don’t show up directly at the blacksmith. To use them for upgrades, open your Kuku Pot from the inventory, select a scale and “use” it to move it into your personal inventory. Each scale occupies a regular inventory slot, so only take out what you need for the upgrade — don’t clutter your pockets with dragon confetti.
How to get more Aeserion Scales
If you burn through your stash (or just like acquiring rare currency for fun), you can get more via the Greymane missions. Go to the Serpent Shrine, check the quest list, and you should see an exploration mission called something like “Exploration of the Serpent Shrine.”
Each mission takes about three in-game days and rewards an unspecified number of Aeserion Scales. They’re resource-heavy to send out, so consider whether you want to spend your materials or hang onto the 40–45 scales you collected personally.
Final tips and survival advice
Save your scales for the upgrades that truly matter — they’re limited and pricey. Prepare for Praevus with strong fire protection, bring good healing consumables for the Ancestors, and remember: you’re freeing a snake, not mugging it. Break the spikes, pocket the scales (via Kuku Pot), and don’t forget to laugh a little when the game tries to set you on fire.
