What went wrong at GO Fest
The 10th-anniversary Global GO Fest was meant to be a feel-good parade of Mega Mewtwo and free fun. Instead, raid servers crashed mid-event and a bunch of players watched their paid raid passes vanish into thin air. Millions of Trainers were out hunting—and a lot of them left the streets empty-handed and very annoyed.
Scopely’s “make-good” plan
Scopely Explore announced a special raid day on July 26 to try to patch things up. The event is set for 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, but there’s a catch: it only applies to time zones UTC+0 and higher (think Asia-Pacific through Europe). Also, the company confirmed it won’t be restoring the specific paid passes people lost.
Why players are furious
Imagine paying for something, losing it because of a server meltdown, and being told to come back another day and try again. That’s essentially what happened, and many players feel that asking people to replay raids isn’t fair compensation. Folks on social media called it a global problem—not a few isolated areas—so the wording that it affected “some areas” didn’t sit well either.
Requests from the community
Players have suggested clearer remedies: refunds for lost passes, direct replacements, or at least meaningful in-game bonuses (yes, people asked for free Shiny Mega Mewtwo X and Y if they lost a bunch of passes). Short of that, repeating the same activity with worse odds is hardly comforting.
Been here before
This isn’t the first time the raid system has sparked outrage—other companies running big events have seen the same messy results when millions of people try to do the same thing at once. Still, repeat mistakes and vague statements aren’t great PR for a big anniversary celebration.
What to watch next
If you lost passes, keep an eye on official updates before July 26. The community hasn’t quieted down, and many Trainers are expecting more than just another raid day. At minimum, players want clarity, fair compensation, and some actual peace offerings—bonus shinies or passes would be a welcome olive branch.
