Quick scoop
Activision just opened pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 ahead of its October 23 launch on current-gen consoles and PC. Most platforms already have digital pre-orders live — but Switch 2 owners are getting the cold shoulder for the moment.
Which versions are on offer?
There are three editions listed by the publisher, and they say all of them will eventually be available on every platform, including Nintendo’s upcoming console. That said, Switch 2 buyers will have to wait a bit longer to actually put down a pre-order.
Standard Edition (digital and physical)
If you pre-order the Standard Edition digitally, you’ll unlock early access to the Open Beta and snag the Hunter Killer Operator skin as a bonus. The physical Standard Edition will be sold on consoles, but right now it doesn’t include those extra digital goodies.
Vault Edition — the deluxe bundle
The Vault Edition builds on the Standard content and throws in two exclusive operator packs. One is the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, which includes four character skins for Price, Valeria, Ghost, and Blix. The other is the Special Forces Operator Pack, featuring four nation-themed skins representing the UK, Germany, France, and South Korea — each with voice lines in their local language. Also, longtime players who’ve owned a Call of Duty game from 2019 or later on the same account can get a 10% discount on the Vault Edition during the pre-order window.
Nintendo Switch 2: it’s coming, just not yet
The Switch 2 version is being built natively by Digital Legends alongside Infinity Ward — so it’s not a lazy port. It’s slated to launch on October 23 at the same time as other platforms, marking Call of Duty’s return to Nintendo hardware after more than a decade. Pre-order specifics for Switch 2 — like the start date and price — will be announced later this summer, but the publisher says all three editions will eventually show up on the new console.
Final thoughts
If you’re itching to play, you can pre-order on most platforms now and pick the level of bling you want. If you’re on Switch 2, practice patience (or build a stylish loadout in your head) until the official pre-order window opens.
