Intro — Why you should care about sneaky clowns
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hides a bunch of delightfully dressed Mimes across its world — think striped shirts, weird faces, and treasure for your vanity collection. They aren’t tough if you know what they do, but they’re fun little detours that drop outfits, haircuts, and a handful of quirky rewards.
This guide points you to every Mime, tells you what you get for slapping them down, and gives you a few goofy-but-effective tactics so they stop stealing your picnic vibes.
Mime #1 — Lumiere (Prologue)
Where: At the docks during the Gommage event; turn right from the Gommage area and check the corner beside the stage performers. Reward: The ‘A Peculiar Encounter’ trophy/achievement and the Lumiere music record.
Mime #2 — Spring Meadows
Where: From the Grand Meadow Expedition Flag, take the left path and grapple across the cliff gap — the Mime lounges on a stone platform in the middle. Reward: Baguette outfit and baguette haircut for Gustave.
Mime #3 — Flying Waters
Where: From the Coral Cave flag, march through the foggy narrow tunnel, find the kelp forest, then take the hidden cliffside path with climbing grips — the Mime waits above. Reward: Short haircut for Maelle.
Mime #4 — Ancient Sanctuary
Where: Leave the Sanctuary Maze flag, crawl through a small opening, then turn left to an open area with a collapsed wooden structure; the Mime stands on an elevated back path. Reward: Baguette outfit and baguette haircut for Lune.
Mime #5 — Esquie’s Nest
Where: From the Esquie’s Nest entrance, head down-right toward the pond — the Mime hides at the far end. Reward: Baguette outfit and baguette haircut for Sciel.
Mime #6 — Continent Overworld (Red Trees Island)
Where: A pair of Mimes face off on a small red-tree island northwest of Old Lumiere — reach it by swimming or flying with Esquie’s abilities. Keep an eye out for a Lost Gestral while you’re there. Reward: Voluminous haircuts for Sciel and Lune.
Mime #7 — Frozen Hearts
Where: From the Iced Heart flag, climb up across the train cars toward the main objective but take the left route before the objective; the Mime is hiding behind a column near a Gestral Merchant. Reward: Short haircut for Lune.
Mime #8 — Yellow Harvest
Where: Start at the Harvester’s Hollow flag, head right until a crawlspace opens into a mountain field — the Mime is standing in that field. Reward: Braid haircut for Maelle.
Mime #9 — Sunless Cliffs
Where: Enter the Chroma Portal from the expedition flag and follow through; you’ll be prompted to choose a single party member to face the Mime — pick wisely. You can repeatedly challenge it for the same haircut reward. Reward: Bald haircut for all characters and the ‘The One’ pictos.
Mime #10 — The Reacher
Where: From the Ladder Area flag cross the bridge and look for a rope dropping on the left — descend and the Mime will be waiting at the bottom. Reward: Baguette outfit and baguette haircut for Maelle.
Mime #11 — Sirene
Where: Progress into the moving-platform section until a platform sends you through a narrow underground tunnel; follow grapple points, run past a balcony and check the dark corner — the Mime hides there (or start from Sewing Atelier flag and turn right if you missed it earlier). Reward: Sirene haircut for Lune.
Mime #12 — The Monolith
Where: From the Tainted Cliffs flag, stay on the main path and ignore right forks. When you spot a fireplace-like structure, take the narrow left passage and drop the rope into the huge room — the Mime awaits, flanked by a Clair and an Obscur. Reward: Voluminous haircut for Maelle.
Mime #13 — Flying Manor
Where: Take the lift behind the Central Plaza flag, then left to a rope you can descend. Move forward, take another rope up on the right, and you’ll stumble onto the Mime. Reward: Clea haircut for Maelle.
Mime #14 — Visages
Where: From the Joy Vale flag (or the Joy Vale area), hug the left side and go up the slope — the Mime is waiting near the top. Reward: Baguette haircut and baguette outfit for Verso.
Mime #15 — Old Lumiere
Where: Fast travel or head to the Right Street area, run ahead until an NPC triggers, then turn right and dash past enemies until you find wall anchors — climb them to reach the Mime. Reward: Braid haircut for Sciel.
Mime #16 — Verso’s Drafts
Where: From the Candy Land or Candy Land flag, use the wall anchors to climb up and keep going left; the Mime is tucked away along that route. Reward: Baguette haircut, baguette outfit, and the Baguettaro weapon for Monoco.
How to Beat the Mimes — Short, snappy, and silly
Don’t be fooled by their theatrical poses — Mimes follow a simple script. The moment battle starts they usually slap a protective barrier in front of themselves. That barrier grants multiple temporary shields that must be removed before the Mime takes real damage.
Pro tip: use free-aim shots, multi-hit Pictos, or party members that get extra actions per turn to chew through those shields fast. Maelle’s skill that breaks shields (once unlocked) is a superstar in these fights.
Mimes also have stubbornly high defense. The fastest way to make them crispy is to fill their Break Meter (the yellow bar under health) with effective hits — elemental burns (fire attacks that apply Burn stacks) and other high-value hits speed that up. When it flashes, hit a Break-type skill to stun and massively drop their defense.
Offense-wise they’re predictable: a two-slap headbutt melee and a multi-hit hammer flurry. Very dodgeable, very annoying if you stand there looking at their face. In a few encounters they show up with backup enemies, so expect a little tango if you went in solo.
Once broken, throw your biggest skills at them and watch cosmetic loot rain down. Most Mime rewards are visual only — outfits, haircuts, weapons for a couple of characters — but they’re great for looking ridiculous while stomping through The Continent.
Final Notes
There’s a Mime in the prologue worth a trophy, but there’s no meta-achievement for clearing them all — so hunt them because you want the look, not the badge. Keep your eyes and ears peeled (they’ve got very distinctive vibes), enjoy the weirdness, and collect every silly haircut you can.
If you want, I can turn this into a printable checklist (with the quick step-by-step paths) so you can mime-hunt like a pro. Want that?
