Quick intro — why you should care
Ancestral Cores are the shiny, mysterious bits you’ll want if you’re upgrading ancient gear or crafting the coolest Sheikah-tech toys. They’re not garbage loot you hand to a potion seller — they’re the good stuff, and they can be stubborn about showing up.
The basic method: beat Guardians (a lot)
The straightforward way to collect Ancestral Cores is to smash Guardians. Different Guardian types drop these materials at different rates, but the common ones — the walking, flying, and stationary models — are your bread and butter farms. Don’t expect them to hand you a core every time; think of it like fishing with a stick and a hope.
Drop chances — the short version
Most common Guardians tend to drop cores fairly rarely (roughly in the ballpark of a few attempts per drop). Trial Guardians’ loot depends on the shrine’s difficulty. The bigger and tougher the Guardian, the better your odds of scoring an Ancestral Core or its giant cousin.
Where to farm them (favorite hangouts)
If you want efficiency, head toward Hyrule Castle — it’s basically Guardian central. Hyrule Field and the roads leading to the castle also have clusters of Guardians, which saves you a lot of wandering-and-crying time.
Shrines with Trials of Strength are excellent too. Scout Guardians that appear in those trials respawn after a Blood Moon, so you can rinse and repeat without trekking across half the map hunting new enemies.
Giant Ancestral Cores: the rarer cousins
Giant Ancestral Cores are much rarer and are used for higher-end upgrades and recipes. They usually come from larger Guardians or those lurking in dangerous, high-level zones. Some shrine chests also hide giant cores, so keep an eye on shrine rewards when you finish them.
Can you buy them?
Nope. Ancestral Cores and Giant Ancestral Cores aren’t sold by regular merchants. If you want them, you’ll have to earn them the old-fashioned way: by taking Guardians apart or checking shrine loot.
Farming tips and fun tricks
Bring ancient-resistant gear if you want to survive longer, or use hit-and-run tactics if you don’t trust your armor. If you spot a group of Guardians, plan your escape route before you try to be a hero. Use the Blood Moon to your advantage — finish a Trial of Strength shrine, wait (or play until) a Blood Moon resets things, and go again.
Short checklist before you go hunting
1) Head toward Hyrule Castle or known Guardian patrol routes. 2) Clear Trials of Strength for repeatable Scout Guardians. 3) Prioritize bigger Guardians for slightly better drop odds. 4) Don’t waste time waiting for guaranteed drops — patience and repetition is your friend.
Wrap-up
In short: kill Guardians, repeat, and check shrines. It’s a grind, but once you’ve got a stash of cores you’ll feel like a tech-savvy hoarder with impeccable timing. Happy farming — may your loot drops be generous and your ancient weapons slightly less murderous to you.
