How to Beat Sans: Ultimate Genocide Route Survival Guide

How to Beat Sans (Genocide Route Survival Guide)

Sans is the notorious final hurdle on the Genocide Route — tiny HP, ridiculous dodge skills, and a penchant for giving you slow, soul-sucking damage with the Karma mechanic. This fight isn’t about dealing damage; it’s a marathon of dodging, memorizing, and not panicking when your health decides to leak out of existence.

Before You Go In

Bring a pocket full of the best healing food you can find. You’ll be eating mid-fight like it’s a picnic on a death trap. Good options include Cinnamon Pie or Caramel Pie — big heals and nice flavors for morale.

Instant Noodles are cheap and reliable; treat them like emergency snacks for when everything goes sideways.

Steak in the Shape of Mettaton’s Face is literally a showstopper. It heals, and it’s got personality. Which you need after being body-slammed by bones.

Legendary Hero is a heavy hitter on the heal scale — great to have in reserve for those “oh no” moments.

Snowman Piece is a quirky pick that can save you when the RNG gods are frowning. Basically: stack heals, hope for the best, prepare to spam food.

Overall Strategy

Sans has only 1 HP, but he’ll dodge your attacks until the final act. Don’t go in thinking you’re doing a DPS race — this is pure endurance. Learn the attack order, conserve your heals, and focus on not getting hit multiple times in a row. Because Karma keeps knocking down your HP even after the hit is over, safe play beats reckless healing.

Attack Patterns and How to Survive Them

White Bones: bones pop in from different angles and hurt if they touch you. The trick is constant movement — keep sliding around so they can’t clip you.

Blue Bones: these only hurt you if you’re moving while they touch you. Weird, right? When they block your path, stand still and glide through like a very tense statue.

Orange Bones: opposite of blue — move while passing through or they’ll smack you. Timing is everything, so don’t freeze up.

Gaster Blasters: giant skull lasers. Watch where they spawn, get out of the beam path, and move before they fire. Bonus tip: don’t stand where they look like they’ll aim.

Blue Platforms: Sans likes tossing you around onto platforms rimmed with bones. Time your jumps, avoid edges, and don’t land where the bones are waiting to say hello.

Mixed Assaults: eventually Sans will mix bones and blasters like a chaotic DJ. Don’t try to react to everything at once — find a pocket of safety first, then deal with the rest.

Mindset and Final Tips

Everything in this fight repeats in the same sequence, so every death is practice. Memorize sections, learn where the safe zones are, and don’t get greedy with heals. Since karma drains your health after damage, taking two hits in quick succession is far worse than one bigger hit followed by careful recovery.

Be patient, keep your reflexes sharp, and accept that you will probably rage a little. Smile, breathe, and try again — Sans hates giving up almost as much as he hates being hit.
