First Review of Octopath Traveler 0 Scores Solid 34/40 by Famitsu

The First Review For Octopath Traveler 0 Is In

Quick heads-up

Square Enix is at it again with Octopath Traveler 0 — a new RPG that lets you make your own protagonist and try your hand at rebuilding a hometown. It’s arriving on Switch and Switch 2 on 4th December, just in time for holiday button-mashing.

Famitsu’s first verdict

Japan’s Famitsu has already posted the initial critic opinions: four reviewers gave scores of 8, 9, 9 and 8, which adds up to 34/40. Not a perfect score, but definitely a solid nod of approval — imagine a confident thumbs-up with flair.

How it stacks up

For comparison, Famitsu recently placed Metroid Prime 4: Beyond at 32/40 and currently has Kirby Air Riders near the top at 36/40. The original Octopath Traveler titles both scored 36/40, so this entry lands a little below those predecessors but still sits comfortably in the “worth checking out” camp.

Demo, saves and what to expect

If you’re into trial runs, a demo is available on the eShop and any save data you create will transfer to the full game — excellent news for perfectionists who hate replaying the tutorial. Expect HD-2D charm, turn-based combat, and some wholesome (or chaotic) town-rebuilding mechanics.

Final take

So there you go: first review is in, Famitsu liked it, and a full review from us will land on the site later today. If pixel-y aesthetics, RPG tinkering and a bit of home renovation in a fantasy setting sound fun, this one might be right up your alley.
