Quick update: It’s live
Surprise! The Switch 2 edition of Stardew Valley has quietly shown up — and if you already own Stardew on the original Switch, this upgrade won’t cost you a thing. The new build is rolling out now in the US eShop, so if you don’t see it yet in your region, check the eShop or hang tight for your turn.
Where this came from
Back in September the game’s solo dev, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, teased a dedicated Switch 2 version during a Nintendo showcase and said it was coming in the fall. Fans have been eagerly waiting, and the creator hinted that a proper announcement would be arriving soon — with a sheepish apology for making people wait.
What to expect in the update
Barone has been coy about specifics, but he’s promised new social and character bits, the usual tradition of a fresh farm layout, and plenty more surprises tucked under the hood. Think small-but-meaningful additions that expand the cozy chaos of your farm life.
Features that make the Switch 2 edition special
This version isn’t just a sticker update — it brings interface upgrades like mouse controls, local four-player split-screen, and expanded online play for up to eight people. There’s also GameShare support so friends without the game can hop in and play with you, which is perfect for last-minute multiplayer hijinks.
Bottom line
If you’re a Switch owner, check your eShop and enjoy the free upgrade when it arrives. If you’re still waiting, pour a cup of coffee (or tea, or suspiciously warm cider), keep an eye on the store, and prepare to dig, fish, flirt, and accidentally anger crows in a slightly shinier Stardew.
