Quick snapshot
Good news for racers who love consoles that fold in half: GRID Legends is coming to the Switch 2 as the Deluxe Edition, and it’s bringing multiple display modes so you can pick between pretty or speedy — or both, if you’re indecisive.
Performance vs Graphics: pick your poison
The game gives you two main presets for both docked and handheld play: a Graphics mode and a Performance mode. Think of Graphics as the outfit that gets all the compliments (better visuals, chill frame rate) and Performance as the gym shorts — smoother frame rates for when you need every millisecond on the track. Expect roughly 30fps in graphics-focused settings and up to about 60fps when you choose performance.
Handheld extras: Balanced and Battery Saver
On top of the main two, the Switch 2 handheld version adds a couple of handheld-only options: Balanced, which aims for a middle ground between looks and smoothness, and Battery Saver, which dials things back to conserve power. So whether you’re on a quick commute or a cross-country flight, there’s a setting that won’t kill your battery before the checkered flag.
All the visual bells and tire smoke
Don’t worry — the port isn’t stripping out the spectacle. Expect the same flashy bits you’ve seen elsewhere: fireworks, tyre smoke, sparks and backfire are all still in play. In short: it’ll still look like a dramatic action movie when stuff explodes and cars slide sideways.
Controller support — yes, even that one
For fans of retro-sized controllers, the Deluxe Edition supports the Nintendo Switch Online version of the GameCube controller. Better yet, it includes analog trigger support for acceleration and braking, so you won’t be stuck with binary on/off inputs while trying to finesse a drift.
Bottom line
GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition on Switch 2 looks like it will give players choice: higher fidelity, higher frame rate, better battery life, or some pragmatic mix of all three. It’s shaping up to be a flexible port for both image snobs and frame-rate fanatics — and for anyone who still worships at the altar of the GameCube controller.
