LoR Meta Report – Patch 4.4 Week 2 – Best Ladder Decks
In week 2 of Patch 4.4, the metagame stabilized, providing us with a clearer picture of the top-performing decks. Notably, Tristana Swarm decks have gained popularity on the ranked ladder, with Demacia, Bilgewater, and Noxus variants demonstrating solid performance. As a result, the meta has adapted to include archetypes that can hold their own against these Tristana variants.
A couple of decks have also joined the meta recently, like Jinx Samira and Nasus SI, proving a powerful performance against the popular decks.
Sources: The matches of data from May 2 to May 8 are from Runeterra.AR and LLor.
Most Successful Archetypes

Tier 1 (Teemo Tristana Gnar BW, Fizz Samira, Teemo Tristana DE)
The Demacia and Bilgewater Tristana variants have been seeing the most success on the ranked ladder, whereas the Noxus variant dropped down to Tier 2. Fizz Samira has made a comeback in Tier 1, proving to be a strong counter against Tristana decks.
Tier 2 (Teemo Tristana NX, Karma Sett PZ, Vayne Aatrox Quinn, Ashe LeBlanc, Ekko Jinx (SH), Illaoi Jarvan IV, Jinx Samira, Heimerdinger Jayce (SI), Shen Jarvan IV, Nasus SI, Pantheon Samira, Malphite Taliyah, Maokai Nautilus, Pyke Rek’Sai, Gnar Norra NX, Swain Illaoi, Norra Veigar, Samira Varus, Senna Veigar)
A variety of different archetypes are holding up well in Tier 2. Jinx Samira, Nasus SI, and Pantheon Samira are the newest additions to Tier 2 and have been putting up a good fight against the popular Tristana decks.

Mono Shurima continues to underperform on the ranked ladder despite the buffs it received in Patch 4.4. The Azir Renekton Nasus deck can’t keep up with the aggression of Fizz Samira and Tristana swarm decks. It has a low win rate of 41.84% across all ranks.
Underplayed and Overplayed Archetypes
In the chart below, I’ve plotted win rates versus play rates for 22 decks to demonstrate which archetypes can be seen as the ‘kings’ in the current meta, and which decks can be labeled as ‘overplayed’ or ‘underplayed’.
The Y-Axis represents the win rate whereas the X-Axis represents the play rate.

Meta Kings: Gnar Tristana Bilgewater and Fizz Samira. Both decks are one of the best performers on the ranked ladder, followed closely by Tristana Demacia. The Gnar Tristana BW’s success on the ranked ladder has led players to attempt to counter it. Despite these efforts, Gnar Tristana BW remains one of the most formidable decks, with a robust matchup table. Similarly, Fizz Samira, while subjected to some nerfs, has garnered increased interest due to its ability to defeat Tristana variants. Players have also started tweaking the list, cutting Wiggly Burblefish and Fleet Admiral Shelly entirely from the deck, replacing them with Monkey Business and Jagged Taskmaster.
Overplayed: Nautilus Maokai. Deep is the most-played archetype across all ranks but barely holds a 50% win rate. That win rate drops to 48.9% in the Master rank. Consequently, it is not the ideal choice for those aiming for a high-rank climb and falls prey to more popular decks such as Tristana variants and Fizz Samira.
Underplayed: Garen Kai’Sa. The deck demonstrated considerable success in the recent Mastering tournament. With a well-rounded matchup table, this deck has proven capable of beating decks such as Karma Sett PZ, Gnar Tristana BW, and Teemo Tristana DE.
Hidden Gems:

Kennen Jhin is a highly aggressive deck that capitalizes on stun units such as Solari Sunhawk, The Stagehand, and The Witness to set up aggressive attacks and deal heavy damage to the Nexus. Jhin acts as a reliable source of ping damage and, once leveled up, becomes a formidable threat that can burn the opponent’s Nexus if left unchecked.
With Quicken and Lightning Rush, players can both keep their units alive and utilize their unique abilities a second time to keep up the pressure. The deck also includes a single copy of Treasured Trash, a powerful late-game value card that can provide alternative win conditions.
Balance Watch: Bandle Gunners and Prize Fight. The Tristana swarm decks have been crushing the ranked ladder with their ability to go wide on the board and put early-game pressure. Bandle Gunners’ buff has made it easier to establish on the board, and the addition of Prize Fight has made the Impact damage too overwhelming for many opponents to handle, especially when combined with a Spell Shield-protected Bandle Gunners.
Most Popular Archetypes

Nautilus Maokai is the most-played deck across all ranks but loses that popularity in the Master rank. Deep has a 50.6% win rate across all ranks and a 48.9% win rate in the Master rank. It struggles against most of the popular decks, which keeps its win rate low compared to other top decks.
Good Matchups: Karma Sett PZ, Ashe LeBlanc, Samira Varus.
Bad Matchups: Teemo Tristana NX, Fizz Samira, Gnar Tristana BW.

Karma Sett PZ has seen more play this past week, becoming the second most-played deck across all ranks and the most-played deck in the Master rank. The control deck has a 51.77% win rate across all ranks and a 52.13% win rate in the Master rank.
Good Matchups: Fizz Samira, Ashe LeBlanc, Ekko Jinx.
Bad Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Teemo Tristana NX, Gnar Tristana BW.

Teemo Tristana Gnar BW is the most popular version of a Tristana deck on the ranked ladder. It’s currently the third most-played deck with a win rate of 55.32% across all ranks.
Good Matchups: Karma Sett PZ, Teemo Tristana NX, Maokai Nautilus.
Bad Matchups: Fizz Samira, Nasus SI, Vayne Aatrox.

Teemo Tristana NX has been losing its initial popularity, dropping to the fourth most-played deck and second most popular Tristana variant. The archetype’s win rate has also dropped to 53.83% across all ranks and 53.25% in the Master rank.
Good Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Karma Sett PZ, Ashe LeBlanc.
Bad Matchups: Samira Varus, Gnar Tristana BW, Teemo Tristana DE.

Fizz Samira makes a powerful comeback into the top 5 most-played decks, holding one of the highest win rates on the ranked ladder. The archetype has one of the best matchup tables, which explains its recent popularity despite the nerfs in Patch 4.4. Additionally, players are experimenting with an updated list that takes out Wiggle Burblefish and Fleet Admiral Shelly, for more aggressive cards like Monkey Business and Jagged Taskmaster. It has a 56.43% win rate across all ranks and a 57.23% win rate in the Master rank.
Good Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Teemo Tristana DE, Ashe LeBlanc.
Bad Matchups: Karma Sett PZ, Ekko Jinx, Jinx Samira.

Ashe LeBlanc is in the top 10 most-played decks with a win rate of 52.28% across all ranks. The Frostbite midrange deck lost a lot of its popularity with the nerfs to The Reckoning and Ashe, and most lists have opted to remove The Reckoning entirely for more protection cards.
Good Matchups: Samira Varus, Ekko Jinx, Vayne Aatrox.
Bad Matchups: Teemo Tristana NX, Karma Sett PZ, Fizz Samira.

Pyke Rek’Sai continues a descent performance despite struggling against aggressive decks like Tristana Swarm and Fizz Samira. The Lurk deck has a 52.93% win rate across all ranks.
Good Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Karma Sett PZ, Ashe LeBlanc.
Bad Matchups: Teemo Tristana NX, Fizz Samira, Jinx Samira.

Ekko Jinx has been a popular choice on the ranked and tournament scene. The predict deck has a 53.26% win rate across all ranks.
Good Matchups: Fizz Samira, Jinx Samira, Gnar Norra NX.
Bad Matchups: Karma Sett PZ, Ashe LeBlanc, Nasus SI.

Teemo Tristana Demacia is the least popular Tristana deck on the ranked ladder but has the highest win rate compared to the other variants. The Demacia deck has a 57.08% win rate across all ranks. Players are also experimenting with Kennen instead of Teemo, to take advantage of Kennen’s Quick Attack and Champion spell.
Good Matchups: Karma Sett PZ, Ashe LeBlanc, Maokai Nautilus.
Bad Matchups: Fizz Samira, Shen Jarvan IV, Gnar Tristana BW.

Swain Illaoi has been maintaining a solid performance on the ranked ladder. It has an almost even matchup against most of the popular meta decks, making it a safe choice for a ladder climb. It currently has a 56.45% win rate across all ranks and a 55.95% win rate in the Master rank.
Good Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Pyke Rek’Sai, Jinx Samira.
Bad Matchups: Fizz Samira, Nasus SI, Gnar Norra NX.

Jinx Samira joins the meta and has been keeping up with established meta decks. The aggressive deck has a 54.31% win rate across all ranks and a 54.19% win rate in the Master rank.
Good Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Fizz Samira, Nasus SI.
Bad Matchups: Illaoi Swain, Heimerdinger Jayce, Ekko Jinx.

Nasus SI Vault of Helia deck has gained quick popularity on the ranked ladder, beating many of the popular meta decks and cementing itself as a solid choice in the past couple of days. The deck has a 55.15% win rate across all ranks and a 54.74% win rate in the Master rank.
Good Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Gnat Tristana BW, Illaoi Swain.
Bad Matchups: Karma Sett PZ, Fizz Samira, Jinx Samira.

Vayne Aatrox continues a powerful performance as an anti-meta deck. It holds a 55.13% win rate across all ranks.
Good Matchups: Teemo Tristana NX, Fizz Samira, Karma Sett PZ.
Bad Matchups: Ashe LeBlanc, Maokai Nautilus, Pyke Rek’Sai.

Gnar Norra Noxus lost the initial hype it had at the start of Patch 4.4 as it failed to reliably beat Tristana Gnar BW. The deck has a 52.72% win rate across all ranks.
Good Matchups: Teemo Tristana NX, Pyke Rek’Sai, Ashe LeBlanc.
Bad Matchups: Maokai Nautilus, Karma Sett PZ, Gnar Tristana BW.

Closing Words
It’s amazing to witness the emergence of new decks within the meta, particularly when they demonstrate a strong capacity to contend with established archetypes. With the Runeterra Open on the horizon, it’ll be exciting to see which decks end up performing the best.
This is it for this week’s Meta Report; I’ll see you at the next one!
