Ahri Lulu: The Unexpected Top Performer of Post-Hotfix Meta

- Origins
Hey, Agigas here! The meta has been constantly evolving since the hotfix patch a few days ago, and the player base is looking for the next big archetypes.
And to be honest, Ahri Lulu was not really a duo I was expecting to show up the way it did. With a 57% win rate in plat+ according to lor-meta, the deck built by TealRed currently holds the best performances among popular decks and might very well be the hidden gem a lot of players were looking for.
With such impressive results, I had to test the deck and see what it’s worth, and after theorizing and experimenting with the archetype I am very happy to introduce you to Ahri Lulu in this deck of the day article!
- Gameplan
Lulu Ahri is a swarm archetype, looking to flood the board by using the discard synergies with Flame Chompers!. Those small challengers are truly at the core of the deck’s strategy, especially in the early turns.
In this archetype, neither Ahri nor Lulu are supposed to level up, as you don’t have anything to support their level-up condition. However, both champions are very strong right out of the gate, as they combine extremely well with Flame Chompers to start snowballing board and tempo advantages and remove the opponent’s key units.
Ahri bouncing your Flame Chompers is generally not a drawback but an upside, as it helps you always get more fodders for your discard synergies.
Later on in the game, when the board is getting wide, Sai’nen Thousand-Tailed and Windfarer Hatchling come down for devastating attacks. It is very easy to stack up a wide board with this deck, and the buffs will hit 5 units more often than not.
With Get Excited! and Mystic Shot, the archetype is able to finish the last remaining point of the opponent’s nexus health or to remove their key units to prepare to overrun them with a wide attack.
While Ahri Lulu does have a similar early game plan to very aggressive archetypes such as Yordle Discard or Lulu Jinx, it is actually also able to play a very solid midrange game plan. With Zaunite Urchin, Sump Dredger, and Sai’nen Thousand-Tailed, the deck is able to sustain its strategy for a very long time and will be able to find the cards it needs.
- Verdict
When I’ve heard of the Ahri Lulu pairing I was both intrigued and pessimistic. But once I saw the list, my hopes for the deck skyrocketed as I’ve been a believer in the Lulu Chompers decks for a long time. And now that I played the deck, I can say that it really impressed me and I had no hesitation when I added it into Tier 1 on our Tier List.
The deck can have some clunky draws from time to time, especially when it doesn’t find any of its 6 Flame Chompers – they are the only good discard fodders. That said, even the clunkier draw can be won thanks to the solid midrange plan of the deck.
With the constant swarm and draw, it’s really hard to see the end of this archetype’s aggression and synergies. It performed really well for me, and I strongly believe it will for you too.
